*First of all, I know that I missed the last two months of WTWW, but thank goodness for Brittany, who carried the torch! Find her posts here and here.*

This month’s topic is on mixing prints. On a day to day basis, I have a pretty classic style and tend to play it safe, but every now and again, I like to think (ok dress!) outside the box.

I thought this would be a good topic since fall is just about here now, and fall is the perfect time to layer and mix patterns and prints. A quick search of Pinterest will get you some great ideas, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites here!

Some things to keep in mind: keeping prints in the same color family will make your outfit more soft and less attention grabbing. Mix the sizes of prints – small stripes with big florals or vice versa. Try keeping the rest of your outfit neutral, including jewelry, hair and makeup! Your prints will speak for themselves :)

Stripes + Plaid

Stylish Petite is one of my favorite fashion bloggers. Check out her Instagram feed for some style inspiration! This outfit looks so cozy and perfect for fall weekends and running around with the family. To make it work appropriate, swap in some black dress pants!

Plaid+Leopard

This one is easily my favorite, since I tend to wear alot of plaid and leopard separately too!

Shay from Mix and Match Mama has great every day style, and I love that even though she is a mama, she still looks so cute and put together all the time! This outfit is one of my faves!
This is another outfit that Shay just posted last week - I like how subtle the leopard belt it - this is a great way to start mixing in prints!

I love Courtney Kerr – her style is fierce and on-point! Notice she has added a third print to her outfit with the herringbone blazer. Love!
Everything about this outfit makes me swoon - I love a great pair of leopard heels!!

Stripes + Floral:

I’m not a big “floral” print person, but I think this combo is so pretty and easy to work with. If it were me, I would probably swap the prints – a floral tee with a striped blazer! – SOURCE

Polka Dots + Stripes:

I adore this look, again from Stylish Petite. She is working with the same color family to keep the look from being too bright and busy, while the red clutch adds just the right amount of balance.

I love the variety in these looks – some are more subtle and others are more attention grabbing, so if you are feeling unsure of mixing prints, try a “softer” look and see how you like it!

Plaid, leopard and stripes are my favorite go-to prints and I wear them all season long! I find it easier to use my accessories to add drama to an outfit – shoes, belts, and scarves are an easy way to add some flair to an otherwise boring outfit.

Here are a few of my mixed print outfits:

My striped sweater is the Lilly Pulitzer Adelaide / leopard vest was purchased last year on vacation / Banana Republic skinny jeans / Sam Edelman “Penny” boot

What are your favorite prints? How do you style them?

As a reminder, the first Wednesday of the month, Brittany and I will be posting style ideas for a specific event. We plan to do a mix of both special events and everyday occasions, from how to mix prints or what to wear to a wedding {like today!}. Is there a particular look you want ideas on styling? Leave us a comment or shoot either of us an email; we are more than happy to incorporate it!

Y’all it is October, and that means we can finally breathe again! Since the middle of July we have been going non-stop: first we put the house on the market; then our house sold in less than 24 hours; so we scrambled to find a new place to live; then decided to take a vacation to Hawaii for two weeks; and by the time we came home and recovered from jet lag (with a 16 month old) we had exactly ten days to pack up our house; so that last Friday, we could close on both properties in one day and FINALLY, move in.

My blog has definitely suffered the most and I’ve missed this outlet; I’m excited to get writing again!

We sold our 2200 sq foot house in our perfect town, to move to an 1100 sq foot condo one town over. I know this probably seems a little bit backwards, but our house was not our forever house. We live in an area where real estate is high, and we don’t have a $750k budget. Which is what we would need to buy the home we want to live in forever. So we decided to buy a condo, live here for a couple of years and save enough money to build our forever home. We’ll either keep the condo as an investment and rent it out, or hopefully sell it for a profit :)

Even though our house isn’t very big, I’m excited to share more photos once we are really unpacked, all the curtains and pictures are hung, and I no longer have boxes stacked in the guest shower. 😉 Seriously, don’t look behind the shower curtain if you come over!

Now for a little Instagram roundup – if you aren’t following me yet, my username is @gentelly

Another reason we chose to make this move is to simplify our life. We weren’t spending enough of the quality time together as a family that we wanted and in less than three years, we had accumulated 2200 sq feet of just stuff. We filled two storage units and donated ALOT of items as well. I hate being tied down by so many things that are just unnecessary and a waste.

We want our life to be able experiences and memories, not cluttered with things. Here’s to hoping we can find a better balance in this new space.

Well, we are HOME. A ten day vacation with a 16 month old, is not quite as relaxing as one might think 😉 but it was a wonderful trip!

We had a long day of traveling – we left Honolulu at 9:15pm Thursday (which is Friday 3:15am EST), landed in L.A. at 5:45am PST; an hour layover and another five hour flight to Miami; a two hour layover and then a 3 1/2 hour flight home. We didn’t get home until 11pm on Friday night. WHEW!

Traveling with a toddler is a lot more work, but I honestly wouldn’t change it for anything. The time we have had with her, and the memories we have created are absolutely priceless!!

I always get a little emotional when I leave Hawaii. It will always be my first home, and I love it so much there. I know I’m lucky to be able to come here as often as I do, and I don’t take a second of it for granted. The views, the smells, the ocean – I never tire of it.

Until next time …. Aloha.
